OFFICE OF DEVELOPMENT

Remember that when you leave this earth, you can take with you nothing that you have received -

only what you have given: a full heart enriched by honest service, love, sacrifice and courage.

— St. Francis of Assisi

The purpose of the Archdiocese of Hartford Office of Development is to build the Body of Christ through major and planned gift development to provide additional financial support for the Church and its ministries. It works side-by-side with the Office of Stewardship in recognizing contributions of time, talent and treasure to strengthen the works of the Church.

The Church proclaims that our lives are based on the gift of life. Everything that we have flows from this gift of life. Everything we have is from God, and as believers, we praise God for all His gifts. When we realize what has been shared with us; “the fullness of Christ” (Col 2:10), we consider how we may share our gifts with others.

The Office of Development serves as a resource for information and strategies for charitable giving to support the Church's parishes, ministries and programs. For information about charitable giving opportunities and the benefits of planned giving, please click here.

The Department's staff partners with the clergy, lay leaders and friends of the Archdiocese to cultivate and steward gifts to benefit the many good works taking place each day in the Archdiocese. The Department also works cooperatively with such entities as the Foundation for the Advancement of Catholic Schools and the development staff of Catholic Charities to secure funds to advance the purposes of these ministries.
