Cathedral Green dedicated and blessed by Archbishop

HARTFORD (08-07-2009) - Surrounded by graduates of former St. Joseph Cathedral School, Archbishop Henry J. Mansell led a ribbon cutting ceremony, thus initiating a new era for the school building which has been renovated into 28 family apartments, known as Cathedral Green.

During the dedication ceremony, Rose Alma Senatore, (left) Chief Executive Officer of Catholic Charities, introduced and thanked the many persons who brought the project into reality. Cathedral Green will house 28 families in 2 and 3 bedroom apartments. The goal of the initiative is to provide affordable housing and ongoing support services for families in the Asylum Hill neighborhood.

Representatives of the State of Connecticut Department of Social Services, Connecticut Light and Power Company, the Corporation for Supportive Housing, the City of Hartford, and the Cathedral of St. Joseph Parish were among those in attendance. Archbishop Mansell offered his gratitude to all who cooperated in the planning and implementation of the project.

On hand for the ceremony was Mr. Howard O'Connell (left) of Glastonbury, one of the first students of the Cathedral School. He graduated in 1927. Now, at age 95, he is proud to see his former elementary school continue its legacy of excellence.
